Take this with a small and helpful dose of skepticism, but there is a real possibility that the world is finally going to see the first “bionic” strap-on dildo ever. Orgasmatronics inc., previously the creator of a few neat ideas including a vibrator hacking kit, launched an Indiegogo gampaign to crowdfund just that.
Billed as the Ambrosia vibe, it is a silicone dildo incorporating a pressure-sensitive device running its length. Whenever the toy is stroked/licked/caressed/inserted/etc. the sensor feeds pressure data to an Arduino-based circuit board contained in a small box to be clipped to the harness. Here the inputs are translated into instructions to drive a bullet vibrator that is placed at the base of the dildo. In other words, whatever happens to the rubber cock is somewhat faithfully translated to vibrations directed to your clit – or wherever you place the thing. This would turn the eminently psychological pleasure of wearing a lifeless simulacrum of a phallus into a much more physical form of entertainment, literally enabling a new form of erotic play.
Hold your hallelujas, though. While the concept does sound great and the people behind it are smart and funny (their motto: «less pants, more science»), sex toys crowdfunding rarely ends well. The last few years have seen a long list of atrociously managed projects, scams, abandoned enterprises and so on. Even when the campaign is legitimate, crowdfunding websites have a habit of suddenly banning them for highly debatable reasons, such as the merchants’ refusal to handle payments for adult products. Unfortunately, there are so many hurdles yet to clear.
I sure hope Dr. X Treme’s mad creativity will win in the end, however, and the odds look good at the moment with about one fifth of the $32,000 required to start manufacturing already covered for.
