I don’t know whether the English language has an equivalent for the Italian idiom ‘compete at who has the longest dick’. Your phrase ‘pissing contest’ somehow misses the juvenile futility of such a behavior, which unfortunately is something you experience very often when your job is writing about sexuality. After a while I opted to just disregard that attitude: morally speaking, I have no penis at all and I am much better off like this.
I guess I wouldn’t be that considerate if it came to a literal contest, however, and that is why I really admire the bravery and pride of Nick Gilronan, the winner of the title of ‘Mr. smallest penis in Brooklyn’. In fact, another thing you deal with a lot as a sex educator is female insecurity before the stereotypical image of athletic and luxurious bodies promoted by the media. The movement for women’s acceptance of their own “real” bodies is relatively recent, and no male equivalent exists that I know of – which makes Nick’s attitude all the more commendable. Read about it in his candid interview.
