About 2.5% of mankind, or 168 million people, is vegan. This means they refuse to exploit animals, be it for food or any other purpose including clothing, entertainment and everything else – so their choice extends to microscopically animal-related goods, encompassing even single proteins. One of them is casein (which comes from milk, which comes from cows), used in the manufacturing of latex product. Such as condoms.
As a logical consequence vegans shouldn’t use condoms, and this spawned a whole industry of “vegan sex goods” that basically rebrands latex-free products applying a philosophical markup to keep consciences quiet. Polyurethane, vynil and polyisoprene condoms are in fact rather common due to the rise of latex allergies. The best part? Their manufacturing process requires cocoa powder – which is commonly gathered byactual child slaves, and not in a fantasy/BDSM sense. I love ethics!
