I received the BDSM – Guide for Explorers of Extreme Eroticism free of charge in exchange for my honest review, Ayzad was kind enough to contact me and ask if I would like a review copy. The fact I was given this book free of charge is not going to affect the outcome of my review.
I have the English version of the Italian Best Seller BDSM – A Guide for Explorers of Extreme Eroticism, with over 570 pages it is fair to say this guide is jam packed full with great information that covers most of what you will need to know about BDSM and kinks.
When I first started reading BDSM – A Guide to Explorers of Extreme Eroticism I admit it took me a while to get engrossed into its pages. It has a very informative and scientific approach to BDSM and quotes a lot of other books and guides available through time that have lead up to BDSM as we know it now. This informative quotation way of writing gave me almost too much information, my concentration was fleeting very often.
After the first few chapters I was soon being filled with every piece of information I would need. I was soon engrossed in the ethics of a good BDSM relationship, I love how in this book it describes the safe practice of BDSM and the way society will view this lifestyle and even safe words to contracts. There is a good chapter on how to choose a partner which gives you great information on why some subs/doms aren’t suited to your life style and that compatibility is key to a trusting BDSM relationship.
Once I was into the middle of the book I was able to concentrate more of the information and in all honesty I learnt a hell of a lot of things I didn’t know. For example the way latex and leather play a big role in the Erotic scene, how to care for them and the durability of each piece.
This book covers a lot of Fetishes including Pony Play, Living Dolls, Suspension, Wax Play and Bondage just to name a few. I particularly enjoyed the few chapters on Kinbaku. This book features a lot of Japanese rope techniques to bind a playmate, they also look stunning!
Every Impact implement you could imagine and some you don’t even know about are listed in this book with the origins they were used and the impact they make as well as how to use them safely. Safety is an important theme throughout this book BDSM should be safe and consensual and I love that this book has that theme running through the pages. It also has a great piece on BDSM First aid that covers everything from using clean equipment to the aftermath and bruises that may occur.
Torture is also covered in the following pages continued by fisting and anal fisting. These are the most extreme cases of Eroticisms so the title is to be taken very literal and this book should be read with an open mind. Electro sex and temperature play are also explained in detail and you are given ways to use the correct substances to have the best effect.
There is a huge amount of information on clinical play which for some may cause you to cringe however like I said before you need to read this book with an open mind the information in BDSM – A Guide for Explorers of Extreme Eroticism is just amazing how Ayzad has managed to sum up each part of BDSM and Eroticism and cram it into a book packed with so much information is astounding.
Body Modification and needle play are also covered in the flowing chapters everything you would need to know about safe ways to practice these types of Eroticisms and what they entail is written in an easy to understand way which is explained in detail.
There is also great information about cuckolding and how having a BDSM relationship would affect your child if they manage to find the odd Paddle or wake up during the night and walk into a spanking session. It talks about how the phrase “too young to remember” is kind of false and that as a responsible parent you should keep your toys/BDSM gear away in lockable places as they will only be curious and seek out such things. It also explains if a child manages to find an object that has been forgotten or left out unknowingly the best way to explain is to be truthful without giving them too much information. You don’t need to tell them what it’s for exactly but explain it is a private thing between two consenting adults and that it is kept between two people ect. Obviously this has to be age appropriate too!
I mean you know how hard it is to keep every dildo or paddle packed away right? We have a cupboard in our bedroom which has floggers, whips and paddles attached to the inside of the door. Well as my followers will know I have had minor surgery a week ago and my mom came to visit me in my vanilla looking room, Mr was packing away the laundry and opened the cupboard whilst my mom was talking to me. I tried so hard to keep her eye contact and summon Mr to realise he left it open without telling him. Turns out I had to just tell him and my mom was like “oh, um don’t worry” I was like “Fancy leaving that open when my mom’s here!” well the point of that off topic ramble was you can’t possible pack away everything all of the time accidents do happen.
There is also a great Shopping section which tells you all about the specialist stores and where to get your BDSM items from. They also have a great Customs Dildo section too which you all know I love custom dildos, It also tells you how to make your Custom dildo.
Flag Code, not one I was familiar with before this book. You wear a visible Flag/Hanky which other kinksters will be able to spot out and about for example: I would wear a dark Green scarf worn on the right to show I like to be bitten, a top then would wear the same colour worn on the left to show they like to bite. This code is a good way to spot other like-minded people which makes finding someone who is compatible with your fetish a little easier.
The final chapters of BDSM – A Aguide for Explorers of Extreme Eroticism cover everything from meet-ups to internet safety, forums and chatrooms. It does touch on illegal practices and how they should not be searched for online and you will never “accidently” come across such material. At the end of this book Ayzad lists various useful links to other guides and site specific to certain Eroticisms.
The BDSM – A Guide for Explorers of Extreme Eroticism is a very informative book that covers all aspects of Eroticism and the social taboos that are normally associated with each. It gives the reader an insight of the BDSM world and allows the reader to make conscious, safe informed decisions when it comes to Exploring Eroticism.
